Savvy Londoner Privacy Policy

Privacy on the internet has always been a main concern for me, so we do our best to protect it on the site.

Who we are

SavvyLondoner.co.uk

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Jetpack Comments

Data Used: Commenter’s name, email address, and site URL (if provided via the comment form), timestamp, and IP address. Additionally, a jetpack.wordpress.com IFrame receives the following data: WordPress.com blog ID attached to the site, ID of the post on which the comment is being submitted, commenter’s local user ID (if available), commenter’s local username (if available), commenter’s site URL (if available), MD5 hash of the commenter’s email address (if available), and the comment content. Since Akismet (also owned by Automattic) is enabled on the site, the following information is sent to the service for the sole purpose of spam checking: commenter’s name, email address, site URL, IP address, and user agent.

Activity Tracked: The comment author’s name, email address, and site URL (if provided during the comment submission) are stored in cookies. Learn more about these cookies.

Data Synced: All data and metadata (see above) associated with comments. This includes the status of the comment and whether or not it was classified as spam by Akismet.

Contact forms

You do not have to provide your real name. If you don’t provide a working email address we are unable to reply to you.

By sending us a message you consent to us retaining the information in our email system, and also to retaining any subsequent exchange of emails. We may use this information in later research. We may also use it as background information in articles if it is possible to do so on an anonymous basis so you cannot be identified.

Cookies

SavvyLondoner stores cookies. Cookies are small pieces of information stored in the visitor’s browser. They enable a better user experience, various features and ad tracking.

By visiting this website you agree to accept cookies. Information about removing cookies and even preventing them from being saved can be found here.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

SavvyLondoner uses third-party cookies, set by an analytics company. The information collected is non-personal information – we cannot identify you from it. It is used for creating statistics which help us improve the site, for example by knowing which pages are most frequently viewed and the number of visitors who access SavvyLondoner through their mobile device.

SavvyLondoner works perfectly well if you choose to block these cookies through your browser, or by using tools such as Google Analytics Opt-Out.

Who we share your data with

SavvyLondoner uses a service called OneSignal to enable push notifications with updates on the content we publish. OneSignal does not store the IP addresses of end-users from countries within the EU. Information on unsubscribing from push notifications can be found here.

Display Ads
We may use Google Adsense, a third-party advertising company, to serve advertisements when you visit the website. They may use cookies, as noted above.

Affiliate programs
We may engage in affiliate marketing, which is done by embedding tracking links into the website. If you click on a link for an affiliate partnership, a cookie will be placed on your browser to track any sales for purposes of commissions. This will not cost you any extra.

Retargeting ads
From time to time, SavvyLondoner may engage in retargeting efforts with third-party companies, such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, in order to market the website. These companies use cookies to serve ads based on your past visits to the website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Opting Out: At any time, you may opt-out of future email communications by following the unsubscribe links in our emails. You may also notify us by email to be removed from our mailing list.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Accessing your data (Subject Access Request)

If you want to see a copy of the information I hold about you, please email me at editor [at] savvylondoner.co.uk

and specify the Name and Email Address you used so I can locate your information. I will respond within a month. The email requesting this SAR needs to come from the email address you used, so I can be sure that I am not sending personal data to the wrong person.
